Still Life: Final
Taking the ideas from the earlier sketches, I imagined the bone cephalopod, sitting or floating above a heap of discarded technology, clutching pieces of it in its power cable tentacles. Above it, the backdrop is clamped into place, trying to lock down trails of data and/or circuitry.
I knew that I wanted the image dark so I would need to use charcoal. This made me a little nervous, as I have only a little experience with this medium. Most of the time this results in a lot of smudge marks, me trying to fight to get some semblance of accuracy, and copious amounts of swearing. This time, I discovered the power of the eraser, using it to lighten different portions after the fact. Working with the charcoal suddenly became a new fun challenge, and I found myself enjoying the assignment.
